What are Fluoride Treatments?
Fluoride treatments help to protect your teeth against cavities and other dental problems. If you don’t already get enough fluoride through the water that you drink and the products that you use, we may suggest additional treatment using fluoride. The treatment is quick and easy, taking just a few minutes in our office. In fact, it can be done at virtually any of your other appointments, as it is so helpful in protecting teeth.
Why are Fluoride Treatments needed?
Fluoride treatments are often needed for pediatric patients who may not have the best oral hygiene or eating habits. Likewise, they’re ideal for patients who would like to take extra steps to protect their teeth and prevent cavities. By preventing cavities altogether, you can avoid needing fillings, root canals, and extractions. Treatment can, and should, be done at each of your bi-annual checkup appointments.

Who’s a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?
Virtually everyone coming into our office is a good candidate for fluoride treatments. Dr. Ghosh can perform an exam on your teeth, and go over your medical and dental history to determine if you may benefit from additional fluoride. For patients who already get enough fluoride through drinking water and dental products, you may not need these additional treatments. Children often benefit the most from fluoride treatments done twice annually.
What happens during Fluoride Treatments?
You will come into our office and be seated comfortably. Dr. Ghosh will then apply a liquid fluoride to the teeth and may dry the area so that the liquid absorbs more readily. You’ll be given instruction on how long to avoid eating and drinking to prevent the fluoride from being washed away. You can have these treatments done twice a year, or more often as needed. If you have children, it’s important to consider additional fluoride treatments as a way to keep their smiles as strong and protected as possible.
